It is perhaps the biggest trend of the past year: natural products. Not only food but also cosmetic products are nowadays labeled with natural or vegan. People are fed up with chemical and processed products and need clean products that are free of chemicals. There are many benefits for the health of the skin. What about perfume? And what exactly does 'natural' mean when it comes to perfumes? We would like to explain some things to you!

Perfumes are made up of scents. These scents determine how a perfume smells. The difference between natural perfumes and conventional perfumes is that natural perfumes only consist of natural scent molecules. In addition to the fact that conventional perfumes mainly use synthetic fragrances derived from chemicals, other chemical ingredients are often added, such as benzyl alcohol and geraniol. These ingredients can cause headaches, dizziness, skin irritations, and other allergic reactions. Natural perfumes are free of these additions, which makes them much better for your health. If you for example have sensitive skin or headaches after spraying perfume, then you should really consider wearing natural perfumes.

But what exactly does it mean when a perfume is vegan? Some perfume ingredients, such as musk, come from animals. Fortunately, more and more brands are choosing to replace these animal ingredients with a synthetic replacement. Vegan perfumes do not contain any component of animal origin and only the synthetic substitute. But then you also have cruelty-free perfumes. Although testing cosmetic products on animals is considered to be very unethical, conventional perfumes are still often tested on animals. Cruelty-free means that the perfume has not been tested on animals. So vegan is not always cruelty-free. A perfume can be perfectly vegan and cruelty-free without falling under the natural category. In this case, 'natural' refers to the avoidance of synthetic ingredients.
